The
Richard Crawley Memorial Trail Ride is held annually at Natchez Trace
State Park in Tennessee to raise money and cancer awareness for the
benefit of St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. We have various trail
rides throughout the day, plus other events for the entire family. A good
time can be had by all who attend.
Richard Ellis Crawley was born on August 27, 1963 to Billy B. and Sharon
K. Crawley of Decaturville, TN. On January 8, 1988 Richard married his
high school sweetheart Jo Kathryn Turner. Nine months later on October 31,
1988 Richard was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The battle with cancer
was lost February 6, 1989. Two months later on April 6, 1989 Richard only
child was born Laura Richlyn Crawley.
This ride is in memory of Richard Ellis Crawley. The family, friends, and
volunteers give of their time too this ride so that hopefully one day a
cure for cancer will be found. We can only pray that this will come to be
one day and that the children of St. Jude will no longer have to fight
this terrible thing called cancer.
The Crawley Memorial Trail Ride began in 1991 in memory of Richard Crawly
a native Decatur Countian. From the humble beginning of $1206.95 in 1991
to the unbelievable success of $45000 in 2000, the Crawly Memorial Trail
Ride has become an event to remember.
The dates for this year's ride have been set for September 30-October 2, 2004. We
look forward to seeing you in the fall.
