The Decatur
County Education Foundation Annual Awards Program is a scholarship
program for seniors graduating from a Decatur County school. The Decatur
County Chamber of Commerce began the scholarship program by giving one
$500 scholarship in 1991. In 1997 Governor Don Sunquist announced the
Three Star Program for Tennessee Communities enabling them to start an
Education Foundation for the purposes of helping students and teachers in
small communities. In 1998 the Chamber of Commerce merged their
scholarship program with the Decatur County Education Foundation to form
the Decatur County Education Foundation Annual Awards Program. From the
humble beginning of one $500 scholarship presented to one student, to this
year's outstanding total of $50,000 in scholarship monies to 83 students,
the Decatur County Education Foundation has come a mighty long way!
