The Decatur County Commission
• Consists of 18 commissioners, two from each of nine districts.
• Approves total county budget.
• Appropriate all funds used by county.
• Establishes the property tax rates.
• May enact vehicle wheel tax, through private act and two thirds majority.
• Has power to zone unincorporated areas of the county.
• Regulate sale of beer.
• Adopt general laws concerning financial management, budgeting and county
purchasing.
• Must provide & maintain courthouse & Jail
• Approves renovation, expansion and new construction of county buildings.
• Elect/approve certain department heads.
County Clerk: Randy Pope.
• Keep official records of the County Commission.
• Collect, motel, beer, business taxes & veh. reg. fees.
• Issues vehicle titles and registrations.
• Issues marriage and business licenses.
• Process applications for beer permits.
• Issues hunting and fishing licenses.
• Collect fees for registrations, licenses and permits. |

County Trustee: Janice Wright.
• Serves as treasurer for the county.
• Collects all county property taxes.
• Maintain a fair regular acct. of all money recd.
• Invest temporarily idle county funds.
• Disburse sales tax revenues.
• Keep detailed account of all transactions.
• Coordinate with county mayor & budget committee. |

Assessor of Property: Randy Smith
• Appraise & assess taxable real property.
• Appraise & assess taxable personal property.
• Appraise & assess tangible personal
property.
• Calculate assessed value of all property for
taxation purposes.
• Coordinate closely with County Mayor, Trustee
County Commission and Register of Deeds. |

Register of Deeds: Don Davis
• Record and preserve deeds, powers of attorney,
deeds of trust, mortgages, liens, contracts, plats,
leases, judgments, wills, court orders,
military discharges, & other lawful documents.
• Keep record of fees, commissions collected.
• Collect "transfer" and "mortgage taxes.
• Make reports on fees, commissions and taxes
to the county.
• Make report on taxes collected to the revenue
department. |

Sheriff: Ronald Kenner
• Principal conservator of peace in the county.
• Suppress all affrays, riots, routs, unlawful
assemblies, insurrections,& other breaches
of the peace.
• Serve warrants.
• Enforce laws concerning crimes against
persons, property, administration of government
and offenses against the public health, safety
and welfare.
• Maintain county jail. |

CLERKS OF COURT

• Attend each court session with appropriate
papers for cases on the docket.
• Administer oaths to parties & witnesses.
• Keep minutes of the court.
• Maintain rule & execution dockets.
• Invest funds.
• Collect state and and county litigation taxes.
• Collect injuries compensation tax
(Circuit Clerk only).
• Conduct sales of property and court orders.
• Collect alimony, pursuant to court orders.

• Attend state court conferences.

County Road Supervisor: David Keeton
• General oversight of the county hwy. dept.
• Control location, relocation of county roads.
• Supervises construction, reconstruction of
county roads.
• Repair, maintain county roads and bridges .
• Submit an annual work program to the
county commission.
• Submit annual budget to county commission.
• Insures all equipment and tools are plainly
marked as county road department property.
• Maintain a repair shop for repair of vehicles,
and equipment. |

Decatur County 911 went on line October 19, 1995. Our 9 Board members are appointed by the County Executive and County Commission, and serve without compensation.
Training includes: CPR certified, EMD--Emergency Medical Dispatch 40 hours, Basic Communication 40 hours, NCIC--National Crime Information Center 40 hours, HazMat--Hazardous Materials 16 hours, 8 weeks of working with a certified operator before being on shift. |
