Introduction

We started our day at the Chamber Office in Parsons with breakfast and photos by Miss Nisha. We loaded into a van, driven by Keith Conder and started our trip to Cherokee Boat Dock.

Mr. Ron Hill had a very interesting speech on how many people came to Decatur County to use our very important natural resource, the Tennessee River. He said you could not imagine how many people from other areas such as Memphis and Nashville were coming to Decatur County and spending money on tourism.

We then loaded up on The Three Seas, a beautiful cruiser owned by C.C. & Bette Courtney. The day was perfect for a ride on the river.

Mr. C.C. showed us various points of interest along the way. Mrs. Bette showed us the inside of the boat and told us about their trip to the Bahamas on the boat.

We stopped off at the Perryville Marina and visited with the owners who have recently moved to our area.

They have made many improvements to the Marina and they also explained how important tourism was to Decatur County. Many of the boats housed in the Marina are from other areas but they are buying gas, bait, food from Decatur County which benefits us all by the revenue generated from tourism.

We loaded back on The Three Seas and headed to the Gumdale Marina owned by C.C. & Bette Courtney. On loading into the van we toured the Gumdale Marina and road around looking at the homes and cabins in the area. Decatur County is very fortunate to have the Tennessee River in its backyard.

We loaded into the van to ride over to the Fisherdale Golf Course and heard Mr. Shannon Smith talk about the growth to the golf course and how many people from other counties were coming to play golf in Decatur County.

Shannon's daughter, Tristen loaded all of us into golf carts and we toured the holes and she pointed out many interesting things. The course is very beautiful and lots of hard work goes into maintaining a golf course as nice as the one right here in Decatur County.

On returning the golf carts, we each got to try hitting a golf ball. It is much harder than it looks. Many of us plan to return and practice hitting golf balls for the fun of it. We may have a new hobby to look forward to.

We loaded back into the van and returned to the Gumdale Marina area to eat lunch at the Mermaid Restaurant. The food was delicious. We saw a video about boating and heard some important facts from the Game Warden. It is amazing how much development has taken place on the river and to know that more development is to come.
